Description
From Sassenheim to Hillegom through the Bollenstreek (“flower bulb region”) in the Netherlands. Every year the flowering tulips and daffodils (narcissus) are quite spectacular during the second half of April. Timing is everything here, though, as the blooming season generally only lasts a few weeks.
Ironically the tulip does not originate in Holland, nor were the Dutch the first to cultivate them. However, it has a long history, starting in the mountains of central Asia, going through Persia and Turkey, and then on to western Europe.
Details of the walk and a slideshow with photographs follow below.
