Blast from the Past: Mt. Tarahaka

Posted on September 12, 2021September 12, 2021

After a previous blast from the past with several “revived” images taken with a first-generation entry-level digital camera from around 20 years ago, here is another look back in time. In May 2003, two friends and myself went on a 3-day hike up Mt. Tarahaka in the Kaikoura range on the south island of New Zealand. This was a fantastic hike, with spectacular weather patterns.

Here too I managed to somewhat “revive” several of the images I took on that trip. Click on each image to see a larger version.

Starting out on the trail, with a blue sky.

Looking down at Waipapa Bay and the South Pacific.

Just before sunset at our campsite.

The next morning, more cloudy weather…

Some really dark weather over the ocean.

After reaching the peak, back to our campsite, with a spectacular sunset.

The third day we hiked all the way back out again. Another one of those trips that will remain in my memory forever!

Traveling broadens the mind.
Hiking strengthens the body.
Photography elevates the soul.
