Whim of the Week – 47

Another wonderful (and rare) encounter…

On a very beautiful hike in the mountains above Bad Gastein (Austria) today, I ran into a lovely pair of ptarmigans (“Schneeh├╝hner”). You don’t get to see these beautiful birds very often! They had already changed into their summer colors, and where probably nesting. The male is to the right (on the rock) and the female to the left (in the snow). Click each pic for a larger view.

Here’s a panoramic view from high up during the hike today. Click the pic for a full-size view, or view all pictures from this fantastic hike.

In an effort to continue looking at the bright side of life in these worrying times, the Whim of the Week series features sometimes funny or unusual, sometimes beautiful or inspiring, but generally whimsical observations I happen to capture on camera during my wanderings around the world.
