“The Wall” on the wall…
I’m in Berlin, Germany, this week for a workshop at the Wissenschaftscolleg zu Berlin, and took a few days extra to do some sightseeing. Today I went to see the longest section of the infamous Berlin wall that’s still standing, called the East Side Gallery. After the wall came down in 1989, this part remained and was used by many artists to paint different murals.
Here’s my favorite piece: “The Wall” on the wall. It’s a real shame that it’s so badly vandalized though…
Just a little further, there were these old Trabants parked along the wall. You can actually rent them!
Anyway, I had a nice day wandering around the city. Here are some more pictures of my “urban hike” through central Berlin.
whimsical (adj.): Determined by chance or impulse or whim rather than by necessity or reason. Playful or fanciful, especially in a humorous way. (Source: The Free Dictionary)
In an effort to continue looking at the bright side of life in these worrying times, the Whim of the Week series features sometimes funny or unusual, sometimes beautiful or inspiring, but generally whimsical observations I happen to capture on camera during my wanderings around the world.
