Whim of the Week – 41

Christmas blues…

Future civilizations will probably look at ours in amazement. Those silly people, every year at the start of winter they cut down a tree, put it inside their house for two weeks, and then toss it away.

A pile of discarded christmas trees, as seen in central Vienna earlier today.

If they would have just left it out in its natural environment, where it belongs, they could have enjoyed it all year round, and for many years to come.

Trees the way they should be enjoyed, as seen on a beautiful hike in the mountains near Vienna earlier this year.

Yes, we are a pretty silly bunch, when you think of it…

whimsical (adj.): Determined by chance or impulse or whim rather than by necessity or reason. Playful or fanciful, especially in a humorous way. (Source: The Free Dictionary)

In an effort to continue looking at the bright side of life in these worrying times, the Whim of the Week series features sometimes funny or unusual, sometimes beautiful or inspiring, but generally whimsical observations I happen to capture on camera during my wanderings around the world.
