Whim of the Week – 31

Playing golf is as dangerous as smoking and drunk driving.

I recently ran into this bizarre sign in a park in Vienna. At first I thought that maybe it meant something different in German, but given the little sign at the bottom (in the center, with the red line right across it), it really does seem to be a rather crude way of preventing people from playing golf in the park.

So, instead of playing golf in the park, I went for a long hike high up in the mountains, where I had to hop over large boulders, cross a steep snow slope and a narrow ridge, and almost stepped on a poisonous snake. Much safer indeed! (At least I’m still alive…)

whimsical (adj.): Determined by chance or impulse or whim rather than by necessity or reason. Playful or fanciful, especially in a humorous way. (Source: The Free Dictionary)

In an effort to continue looking at the bright side of life in these worrying times, the Whim of the Week series features sometimes funny or unusual, sometimes beautiful or inspiring, but generally whimsical observations I happen to capture on camera during my wanderings around the world.
