A historic and cultural hike. From Mödling up into the hills to Burg Liechtenstein and the ruins of Burg Mödling, and a few other ruins on the way as well.
First, the "Beethovenhaus", a house in Mödling where Beethoven spent several summers.
The backside of the house.
"Ludwig van Beethoven lived here the summers of 1818, 1819, 1820."
The old Rathaus (town hall).
And the St. Othmar church.
With its separate bell tower.
Then up the hill to the "Augengläser" (eye glasses).
And next to it, the "Schwarzer Turm" (black tower). Not sure why it's called that way...
Then a little further into the forest, the remains of an amphitheater, built by the Liechtenstein family two centuries ago, but in old roman style.
And a little further still, Burg Liechtenstein. Straight out of a fairy tale.
Then up to the top of the hill.
And another ruin of a former Liechtenstein building.
Then down the hill and up on the other side to the ruins of Burg Mödling, originally a 15th century castle.
And finally back down to Mödling again. Here's a full view of the amphitheater.
