Ruta de Pedra en Sec, Spain (Day 1)

20 March 2017

From Sant Elm to Ses Fontanelles, a private refugi halfway in-between Sant Elm and Estellencs, conveniently breaking up an otherwise very long first day.

This sign at the start of the hike really made me feel confident that this trail is well maintained, or even exists!

But with some effort I managed to make the first climb up, giving rise to a nice view of Illa de Sa Dragonera ("Dragon Island").

Some spring flowers were just starting to show up.

Getting higher up...

La Trapa, the ruins of an old monastery.

Further above La Trapa, the views to the north suddenly opened up.

Some local residents. Wild goats are everywhere in these mountains.

Finally, the light of the setting sun against the mountains above Ses Fontanelles, the refugi where I would spend the first night.

The hike and elevation profile.
