Eggenberg & Gösting, Austria

29 December 2016

A visit to the Eggenberg palace, then up Plabutsch hill to the Fürstenstand observation tower on top, down on the other side to Gösting, and up the next hill to visit the Gösting castle ruins. All in fresh snow, which made it extra beautiful!

Entering the Eggenberg park with its baroque palace.

The gardens around the palace are very nice too.

There were a whole bunch of peacocks walking around here!

Then up Plabutsch hill...

And the views from the Fürstenstand observation tower on top. Looking towards the center of Graz, with the Schlossberg.

Looking north towards the Alps.

A closer view, with my next destination just visible in the gap between the trees: the Gösting castle ruins.

But first all the way down on the other side of the hill to Gösting, with some nice views of the castle ruins along the way.

Then up the hill on the other side to the actual ruins.

A view back at Plabutsch hill from the castle.

And a last look at the Schlossberg in Graz, before heading down again.

A panoramic view from the Fürstenstand observation tower on top of Plabutsch hill (scroll right to see it all).

The hike and elevation profile.
