A beautiful walk through the snow, from Semmering to Payerbach, partly along the Semmeringbahn (a railroad track that winds through the mountains). What a perfect start of the new year!
A view of the Schneeberg shortly after leaving Semmering.
You can see part of the Semmeringbahn (the arches) perched on a cliff.
The next stretch was a pure winter wonderland (mostly in the shade though, which is why there was still plenty of snow on the trees).
And then a part right along the Semmeringbahn.
Next, the castle ruins at Klamm.
One last hill to get over, but with nice views of the Schneeberg again.
And the Raxalpe.
Finally arriving in Payerbach, just before sunset.
The hike and elevation profile.
