Salève, France

22 August 2017

After a work visit to CERN in Geneva I had an extra day, so I decided to go for a hike on the Salève, just across the border in France. With the cable car up, and down through the Grande Gorge. Beautiful day, great views.

First some impressions of Geneva.

The Salève as seen across Lake Geneva.

Last sunlight on the cathedral.

The famous fountain.

Then the hike, looking up against the Salève, with the cable car going up.

Then the views from along the top: Geneva, the lake, and the Jura mountains.

And the views on the other side, looking towards the Alps.

Including the Mont Blanc.

Then down the (steep) Grande Gorge.

With a last look back up before crossing the border back into Switzerland again.

A panoramic view of Geneva and the Jura.

The hike and elevation profile.
